OVERVIEW

Talmadge Patrol is a program run by Talmadge Watch: Volunteer Citizens Patrol (TW: VCP), a California public benefit corporation. The Patrol program is designed to deter criminal activity in the Talmadge neighborhood by providing a visible presence of security patrols on all neighborhood streets and alleys. Participants are trained to “observe and report”. Talmadge Patrol notifies police immediately of all suspicious or criminal activity. Talmadge Patrol began in fall 2007 by a group of neighbors concerned about an increasing crime rate in Talmadge. To address the problem neighbors began working together to develop several programs which include Talmadge Patrol and the Graffiti Elimination program called E-TAG (Eliminate – Talmadge Area Graffiti).

PATROLLING WORKS! Statistics for fall 2008 show a 33% reduction in crime around Talmadge compared to the same period last year!

MISSION

The mission of Talmadge Patrol is to enhance and support the delivery of public services to the community of Talmadge. In addition to the Talmadge Patrol program, TW: VCP organizes a variety of volunteer services and activities designed to be beneficial to public safety and security:

PATROL OBJECTIVE

The primary objective of each patrol is to work in teams to move throughout the neighborhood to observe, witness, assess, record, and report all criminal and criminally suspicious behavior to the San Diego Police Department.
